MILFORD, Mich. (WJBK) - So, the shopping frenzy has officially begun and while the malls are terrific for the great deals, why not keep your dollars local and come to a fabulous, quaint place like Milford.
There are many kinds of shops to choose from in downtown Milford from florists and jewelers to gifts and home décor.
"We have all sorts of different things from a kid's section in the back with wonderful kid's books and baby gifts. We have many different home accessories. One of the favorites in the store is the Polish pottery. It's not only beautiful serve ware, but just a wonderful collectible item. There [are] ornaments and holiday décor type things, so really just about something for everybody on your list," said Kathy Magaluk, owner of Acorn Farm.
"Every time you come in it's a new adventure," said Fran Roth. "They always have new products. They're always arranged differently. I call it my little museum because I just love to come in and look and shop."
Acorn Farm is in the center of Milford's downtown district. It's an adorable kitchen and gift store that has everything you could even need or want for holiday meals and décor.
Magaluk says its vital for shop owners like her to have local support, and customers we spoke with agree.
"I think people have really grown to appreciate the towns that they live in. There's just something about coming into the store, having the clerks know you, as well as us being able to recognize the customers who walk through the door. Truly, most of the customers who have shopped in here these past years have become friends. It's just a wonderful gathering place. So, many times, people come in the store and we end up hearing about their families and what's going on. It's just been a real blessing to be part of the community here," she said.
"It feeds the local economy, and right now it's been so bad around here that any little bit helps," one person told us.
Sort of kitty-corner to Acorn Farm is a shop called Your Nesting Place. Owner Chris Meredith says this is the place to be if you have to buy for a person who has an eclectic style.
"My store is a collected works of just stuff I love. I like to mix and match old and new. I don't like anything that matches, per se. I like to show a layered collected look," she said.
While in her shop, we really took a liking to her Christmas trees. Each one definitely had its own personality.
"I'm not a huge proponent of traditional Christmas," said Meredith. "[I] like to put my own spin on it."
"For example, last year we did a Christmas tree of all old vintage plates. There wasn't one ornament on it. We just filled the whole tree with plates and vintage garland," she added. "So, think about everyday items or something you just love in your everyday life. Just create your Christmas around that."
Your Nesting Place not only sells gifts, trinkets and vintage pieces, but it also sells fine furniture.
There are several other cute businesses in downtown Milford perfect for your holiday shopping.
"We love downtown Milford. It's beautiful. The stores are great. The people are wonderful," one woman said.
While Black Friday is known for mega shopping, don't forget about Small Business Saturday where many shops are offering great deals
