Neighbor Rescues 9-year-old from Fire

DETROIT - A little girl is on life support after being rescued from her burning Detroit home. Her neighbor is being called a hero for rushing in to save her.

A family of five tried to escape the fire, but one couldn't get out. Heavy fire pushed thick, black and toxic smoke in the 4:30 a.m. blaze on Trenton Street on the city's west side.

The family was outside screaming. A nine-year-old girl was still trapped inside.

Neighbor Liviu Talos, who tried once to go in, ran back home to get his breathing respirator. He uses it when he installs insulation at work. It's not much protection, but he also brought some courage and ran back inside the house where there was zero visibility.

"So when I got there, I crawled because you couldn't see (anything)," said Talos. "I reached the leg. So, when I (reached) it... the girl... (made) a noise... (and) then I grabbed her in my hands."

Talos carried an unconscious nine-year-old Tahanee Walid outside to fresh air, but she had no pulse. Terrance Stonestreet, another neighbor, performed CPR on the little girl. He was amazed that Talos even found the girl.

"It was amazing... just for him to be able to get her that fast. He found her in less than five to ten seconds in a pitch black house that's not his home. That's the hero... So, I say they need to give him a key to the city or something," said Stonestreet.

"That's children of God. We got to love each other, help each other, support... whenever we have to," Talos said.

The nine-year-old is still critical at Children's Hospital. We're all hoping the very best for her recovery.
