Help Set Skinny Dip World Record at Oxford Nudist Camp

OXFORD, Mich. - Most people don't know metro Detroit is home to a nudist resort. But here's the naked truth -- the owners want people to know and now the public is invited to jump in to a mass skinny dip.

They'd rather be skinny dipping at the Whispering Oaks nudist resort, and you can join in the fun and help set a World Record. Just leave your bathing suits behind.

"It's a freedom thing. Equality. Everybody's equal when you're totally nude," said Gary Moore.

Everybody here is either naked or wearing shirts that say "I'd rather be skinny dipping," and admittedly at first, it's a little disarming interviewing people with no pants on.

"It's not the body that counts here. It's the character of the person," said Keith Delmage.

So, grab your towel and head to the pool in nothing more than sunglasses and a baseball cap. It's nude only here, and this is the stress free atmosphere promised at Whispering Oak Nudist Resort in Oxford.

"It has really become the urban myth. Everybody knows that there's a nudist club somewhere around Oxford. Nobody seems to know where it is. Some of the neighbors don't even know we're here," Moore said.

They're here, all right, for 47 years out on Baldwin Road. Gary Moore and his wife have owned the camp for 32 years. Now, they're inviting people to come out Saturday to skinny dip in the pool, maybe even the pond, and set a World Record.

"I thought I'd do this part of the program to destroy the urban myth so everybody knows that we are here and you're welcome to come out and visit," said Moore.

The American Association for Nude Recreation Skinny Dip is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday at 136 sites nationwide. Last year, 13,648 people jumped in -- in the buff.

"We could have 20. We could have 150. We don't know what to expect," Delmage said.

He tells us men seem pretty comfortable letting it all hang out, but women are a little hesitant. So, we asked Tracey. She first came here with her husband three years ago and loved the family oriented environment.

"We all do different things and we're all different people, but we get along great here," said Tracey James.

So, the long and short of it is this, if you're tired of the tan lines and brave enough to bare it all, you're invited. Just don't forget the sunscreen.
