myFOXdetroit.com - The fight to grow vegetables in her front yard is over for Julie Bass of Oak Park. Her case has been dismissed in court without prejudice. Bass can now grow vegetables in her front yard as she pleases.
The city had told bass she her garden had to go because it didn't fit the neighborhood. See Alexis Wiley's original report here.
She was issued a misdemeanor ticket and faced possible jail time for the violation. Her case sparked an international movement on the Internet, culminating with an online petition drive and a Facebook support page, ' Oak Park Hates Veggies .' Mainstream national media outlets followed the story.
The pressure may have led to decision made by City Prosecutor Eugene Lumberg to dismiss the charges against Bass a few days ago. On Tuesday, a district court judge cleared Bass of all charges relating to the garden. Bass was also cleared on charges for failing to properly license her dogs.
