Oakland U. Student Suspended after 'Hot for Teacher' Assignment

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -- Casually reading from his journal for his English class, 56-year-old Joseph Corlett got to the part about his female instructor at Oakland University. Their journals or daybooks were a part of the class work. Write freely they were told, and so this.

"I'll never learn a thing. Tall, blonde, stacked, skirt, heels, fingernails, smart, articulate, smile. I'm toast, but I stay."

Corlett said he asked the instructor on several occasions where there any restrictions to what they wrote in that journal. The instructor said no. He admitted to writing a lot of sexual things in the journal, but it was the part about what he thought of his instructor, calling her at one point distractingly attractive.

Corlett is suspended for three semesters. The construction businessman's budding literary career is sidestepped for now.

"People don't have to like me. People don't have to like what I write. People may find what I write offensive. They may call it creepy. They're entitled, but it's protected speech," he explained.

Corlett had written several sexually suggestive papers. Some parts we can't mention. We'll just say it's about the beauty he saw in certain women. For one project, he focused on the women he would want to see in various states of undress.

His instructor, Corlett said, accepted that assignment, a pass he thought to keep writing freely.

His wife is in support of all this, calling his writing fearless.

"I make no apologies ever for exercising my constitutional rights. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in the first. I believe that constitutional rights unexercised will atrophy," Corlett told us.

Corlett said the writings don't constitute sexual harassment because he wasn't stopped by the instructor, until now.

He's appealing the suspension.

Oakland University is not going to comment right now as this is under investigation, but we can tell you that Corlett said he has gotten in touch with a lawyer. He's hoping to resolve this out of court. He wants to get back to studying at OU.
