DETROIT (WJBK) -- Certainly, if Thursday we met Prince Fielder, we met the royal family, his darling boys, his lovely wife, and they are definitely his biggest fans.
"We all know how important a wife is, especially in sports," said Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch.
He welcomed the Fielder family to the Tigers, Prince Fielder's wife, Chanel, and their sons, seven-year-old Jadyn and five-year-old Haven. The boys are now sporting the Old English D.
Jadyn joined his dad on stage for the big announcement and press conference. It was a media frenzy for us, but a bit of a sleeper for him.
As for Prince Fielder, the first person he thanked was his wife.
"I want to thank my wife, my lovely, lovely wife. She means the world to me, and she's kept me on track to get here today," he said.
The Fielders are just back from Bora Bora where they finally had the wedding they never had time for because of baseball. Chanel gave the media some insight into her husband's personality.
"He's a big teddy bear. You want that fire on the field. It's off the field that you want him to not have it and he doesn't," she said.
Chanel said Prince gets the boys up in the morning and gets them to school and constantly has them at the ballpark, much like his own father did when he was growing up.
"They go in the clubhouse with him all the time. They go to the field with him," she explained.
This family goes to all the games.
"Predominantly all 162 and then spring training, so we're a traveling circus," Chanel Fielder told us.
A circus that hasn't yet decided where they'll reside in the Detroit area. For now, they're living in Florida, which is Chanel's home state.
"I just wanted to tackle spring training. It turns out it's 30 minutes away from our home, so I'm good with that for now," she said. "Now the madness for here starts."
Fox 2 is looking for some good ideas on how to redefine Detroit. Have one?
