Patterson to Discuss Pontiac's Financial Troubles

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is scheduled to discuss the city of Pontiac and its financial challenges at an event sponsored by the Pontiac Regional Chamber.

The program will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Baker College Student Center in Auburn Hills.

County spokesman Bill Mullan says Patterson will talk about what has led to Pontiac's fiscal problems.

Pontiac's budget deficit is expected to reach $12.5 million by June 2012.

State-appointed financial manager Michael Stampfler proposed in a letter to Patterson last week that Pontiac's city services merge or combine with county operations. Stampfler has said the city could face bankruptcy.

Patterson has said he opposes the proposal, which could see the county taking on Pontiac's debt.
