ROSEVILLE, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) - Groesbeck Highway is shut down for hours after a deadly accident. It happened when the driver of a semi truck hit a man walking on the road.

Roseville police say the driver of the truck was not speeding.

"He tried to stop, but he said the guy walked right out in front of him," said Roseville Police Lt. Thomas Suminski.

It was about 5:00 p.m., busy rush hour traffic, Groesbeck just south of 12 Mile Road.

"We had several 9-1-1 calls and traffic was very heavy at that time of the day," Suminski said.

Witnesses tell police it's not clear what the 50-year-old man from Warren was doing out in the roadway. Paramedics treated the victim on scene and then took him to St. John Macomb Hospital where he passed away.

Police are not pursuing any charges against the driver at this point.

"The truck driver was going very slow southbound on Groesbeck. The pedestrian was either walking or standing in the right lane. We're not sure why," said Suminski.

There have now been several fatal accidents in Roseville in the last month. Even police say it's like nothing they've ever seen.

"I've been working in traffic a long time and this rash has been the most I can remember ever," Suminski said.

The victim's name is not being released. Police are still trying to notify his family.
