CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -- Caught on camera in Clinton Township, a man walked into a gas station with one intention, stealing the money in the cash register. He was successful, holding up the clerk and taking what he wanted. Police are hoping that you'll recognize the suspect and help them track him down.
Surveillance images show an armed robbery in progress. At first, things appear business as usual. An older man walked into the Speedway at Hall Road and Romeo Plank early Monday morning. He spotted the clerk and approached the counter.
"He's meandering around the store for a while," said Clinton Township Police Lt. Marc Rybinski. "When the clerk goes behind the counter, he approaches the clerk with his left hand in his coat pocket and demands money from the clerk and tells her that he is going to shoot her unless she gives up the money."
Due to the way cameras are positioned in the gas station, the suspect's face is only caught on camera a few times. He's an older, white male with a beard, mustache and missing his front teeth. Clinton Township Police believe the suspect's clothing may also help identify him.
"He's wearing a Carhartt jacket and a white tee shirt that said 'Fourth Avenue' on it, which is kind of unique, and some red sweat pants with two white stripes that ran down the side," Rybinski said.
Images of the robbery from another angle show the female clerk was visibly shaken as she opened the cash register, pulled out the money and handed over about $200 in cash. A bold robbery that unfolded with other customers inside.
"Times the way they are, people are going to do what they have to do," said customer Jim DiPaola. "It's wrong, but they are going to do what they do."
