DETROIT - Public meetings are scheduled to gather comments on four proposed maps that slice up Detroit into seven voting districts for City Council and Board of Police Commissioner seats.
The first meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Greater Grace Temple on Detroit's northwest side. The final three meetings are scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Feb. 10 at other locations.
The apportionment issue was approved by Detroit voters in November as part of an overhaul of the City Charter. Currently, the city's nine council members are elected at-large. Next November, seven seats will be elected by districts and two will be at-large.
The maps have been prepared by City Council staff.
Detroit's primary election will be held Aug. 6, followed by the Nov. 5 general election.
