(WJBK) - Facing cuts to the police department, Royal Oak city leaders decided Tuesday to accept a pay cut of their own, along with unpaid holidays.

FOX 2's Simon Shaykhet reports the cut is partly a symbolic gesture, but also sends a message to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, who wants cities to cut costs in order to qualify for state funding.

The city's mayor say he doesn't know yet how many police officers could lose their jobs. Thanks to a grant, the city's fire department is not in danger of losing jobs.
