DETROIT (WJBK) -- We haven't seen a lot of snow falling this winter, but let it snow in downtown Detroit. Preparations are underway for the annual Motown Winter Blast.
Where's the snow? It's right in the middle of Campus Martius. Brent Nelson with Shanty Creek Resort is the man behind the magic.
"We compress water and air together and shoot it out the end of the gun and low and behold we get snow," he said.
However, the unseasonably warm weather we've been loving has actually made Nelson's job kind of tough.
"We're dealing with the temperature of not only the air, but the temperatures of the street. If you make snow up at Shanty Creek or wherever, the ground is normally frozen," Nelson explained. "The temperature of the road [is] about 45, 50 degrees, so we've had to cool the road down enough so we can start building up a base."
But as always, Brent found a way to make it snow just in time for Detroit's Winter Blast.
"It's a great family activity. You've got snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice skating, a winter carnival, three music stages," said Jeffrey Wilson with Winter Blast.
So if you're looking for a taste of winter and all the fun that comes with it, you'll find it in downtown Detroit.
"We're bringing winter back to Detroit this year for Winter Blast," Wilson said.
Winter Blast starts Friday at 11:00 a.m. and to get in all you need is a dollar or you can bring a canned good or a children's book. All of it will be donated.
