DETROIT - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has praised a partnership between a Detroit-based social and economic services agency and a manufacturing assembly company.
Snyder is among the speakers Monday morning at Focus: HOPE. The nonprofit founded in 1968 after the Detroit riots has teamed up with Auburn Hills-based Android Industries to assemble parts for the Chevrolet Volt, a rechargeable electric car with a small gas engine.
Snyder says it's an example of the kind of workforce development that's crucial to pulling Michigan out of its economic struggles.
Workers mostly from Detroit have been hired by Focus: HOPE for manufacturing positions at Android Industries, which leases manufacturing space at the nonprofit.
Snyder is expected to introduce his jobs development plan in November as one of his "messages" to the state Legislature.
