ROYAL OAK, Mich. - A stabbing victim stumbles into a local White Castle. Meanwhile, the search for the attacker took a bizarre twist.

Some bad things did happen, but it could have been a lot worse. The suspect is in jail, the victim is recovering, but it does beg the question, if you saw a man bleeding and begging for your help, what would you do?

"He opened the door and said, 'Help me. Help me. I'm bleeding,'" said Johann Kaigler.

The 46-year-old man may have been a block away from a hospital, but he came across White Castle first. Kaigler says he just so happened to be there.

"He said, 'Somebody stabbed me,'" Kaigler said. "He stabbed him in his stomach or something. He was bleeding real bad, so I said, 'Would you please send an ambulance.'"

"Everybody was in shock," he added.

According to Royal Oak Police, the victim was stabbed by a man inside his apartment in the Woodward North complex at 13 Mile and Coolidge late Easter Sunday.

"It's always disturbing when you've heard somebody got stabbed in your building," said Larry Ross.

"I thought this was a pretty nice neighborhood. I'm really shocked," said Patricia Gray.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery to a stab wound to the stomach. He's expected to be okay.

"He's not going to die. That's refreshing," Ross said.

Shortly after this holiday drama, police thought they had the suspect cornered at a nearby Walgreens. However, detectives soon discovered he didn't commit that crime, but he was still up to no good. That crook was seconds away from being the getaway driver for his buddy, who was boosting Five Hour energy drinks. He obviously wasn't moving fast enough.

Meanwhile, neighbors like Ross won't rest until this mystery is solved. He's even set up a triple camera surveillance system of his own for one reason.

"I want these crooks to stay away from my building," he said.

Police are not saying anything at all about the stabbing suspect except that he is in custody, and the suspect and the victim are not strangers.
