"He's been in prison for quiet a while, he has an extensive violent criminal history," said Detective Dave Taft with the Melvindale Police Department. Smith's rap sheet includes carjacking, gun possession and robbery.
Police showed us surveillance video from Vineyard's Liquor Store on Outer Drive and Dix which they say shows Smith in the midst of a voilent attack. He's a long time customer of the store and a clerk is seen going to get him a beer. That's when the suspect is seen attacking with such force, he actually bent the knife. He can then be seen taking cash from the register.
