MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) - A Highland Park man, accused of breaking into a house and killing the homeowner's 7-month-old cat by putting it in a washing machine and turning it on, has been ordered to spend 2 to 10 years in prison.
Nineteen-year-old Ty-Shawn Bost was sentenced Wednesday by Macomb County Circuit Judge Peter Maceroni. Bost pleaded guilty in April to charges of second-degree home invasion and animal torture.
Authorities say Bost broke into a woman's home last September, put her cat, Ruby, into the front-loading washing machine and turned it on. Police say Bost later told detectives that he killed the cat because it was "bothering" him.
Bost was arrested two days later through fingerprints left at the home.
