OAK PARK, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) - Oak Park Police say a 15-year-old teen who crashed a stolen car is dead and his 15-year-old passenger injured.
"I woke up out of my sleep to see a car zooming so fast and to fly in the air the way it did and to see those young bodies laid out there in the street. It's sad," said Gail Woods.
Woods heard the speeding cars and the violent crash. The damage was deadly.
Police say the teens stole the car from the parking lot of a condominium complex at Nine Mile and Scotia late Monday night. The owner of the vehicle was in the parking lot when it happened.
"She saw her car go by her. So she called us. She knew it was her vehicle," said Oak Park Police Lt. Mike Pousak.
Oak Park Police found the car a short distance away on Morton near Oak Park Boulevard.
"So, they started on foot to go up to the car, and, as they got up there, the car just quickly accelerated and took off," Pousak said.
The officers ran back to their car and gave chase. The vehicle was driven around a couple of blocks and then came back. That's when it lost control, sideswiped a couple of trees and crashed into a Ford Edge.
Police say the driver, Desean Fant, was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, who was reported as a runaway in Oak Park last week, was injured and taken to the hospital. He is expected to be charged with car theft.
"My heart really is out there for the parents. I just can't imagine," Woods said.
