NEW YORK - They're fashionable, fierce and fabulous, but apparently not fit for the plastic fashionista. It seems even Barbie can't cut it in a Christian Louboutin stiletto .
"I'm speechless. I'm truly speechless I don't know what to say," says New York mother Kelly Lelonek.
You might be too when you hear this. The French shoe designer apparently thinks Barbie has cankles. He's creating new Barbie dolls and doing some plastic surgery on her ankles because he reportedly thinks they're too fat.
In her 50 years of existence, Barbie has been criticized for her unrealistic proportions because little girls idolize her and want to look like her. So this fashion faux pas really bothers some moms.
"It's crazy," said Kim Nicolai. "I have a 5-year-old who worships Barbie and it's crazy because they see somebody criticizing the way this doll looks. It's insane. She's perfect!"
Well-known child Psychologist, Dr. Jeffrey Gardere, says it sends the wrong message to children.
"No matter how skinny you are, you're not skinny enough and if you happen to be a little bit heavier or have some issues with obesity that something is very wrong with you," said Gargere.
FOX 5 tried to reach Louboutin for comment, but calls weren't returned. A Mattel spokesperson say it's not the ankles but the arch of the foot that's being redesigned. They released a statement from Barbie herself that reads:
"My dear friend christian loves my ankles -- it was my arch he wanted to give a little more "lift" to so i could rock those high heels. It's all in good fashion fun!"
Louboutin's restyled barbies are set to come out in the next few months. But moms we spoke with say the new dolls and their new ankles can take a walk They like barbie just the way she is.
