It appears more likely that Jennifer Granholm will serve the remainder of her term as Michigan governor after missing out on another possible presidential appointment.

President Barack Obama picked federal appeals judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday. She would succeed retiring Justice David Souter if confirmed.

Granholm had been one of at least six people Obama considered for appointment to the high court.

Both Obama and Granholm are Democrats. Granholm also had been in the mix for a possible appointment to Obama's cabinet earlier this year.

Granholm's second term as governor runs through 2010. She can't run for governor again in 2010 because of Michigan's term limits law.
