Julie Candler
State representative
Oakland County 40th district
Why are you running for office?
A majority of the voters in the 40th district would like to be represented by someone with progressive and liberal views, in place of an advocate focusing only on tax reduction.
What is the biggest problem facing Michigan residents today and how would you solve it?
Replacing our flat income tax with a graduated tax will increase revenue for the state that can provide jobs. Installing a transportation sytem with improved mass transit also will create jobs.
What's a better solution: finding revenue or cutting costs to meet Michigan's public education budget? How would you do it?
Finding revenue is preferable to cutting costs, which requires cutting services and funding for education. Replacing our flat tax with a graduated income tax that increases the taxes on the wealthy will add state revenue.
What's the best way to create jobs for Michigan residents?
Leep encouraging new businesses to move to the state, especially high-tech enterprises. Fund projects such as mass transit to improve workers' access to jobs.
After you leave this earth, what will they say about you?
If they comment, I would like to get credit for my advocacy for liberal and progressive causes that can counter the increasing wage inequality between the rich and working people.
