SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -- In Michigan, presidential candidate Mitt Romney is in a virtual dead heat with candidate Rick Santorum, so Romney was pressing the flesh in Macomb County on Tuesday trying to pull out a win next week.
"Let me introduce the comeback kid, Mitt Romney, the next president of the United States of America," said Romney's Michigan co-chairman Bill Schuette as he introduced his candidate.
It wasn't long before Romney took on labor union bosses. He claimed that unions do have an important role to play in this country, but those bosses, quite another story.
"This president doesn't just look at the workers in the union. He's saluting to the union bosses, and the union bosses too often demand things that are not right for America," he said.
Romney also disagrees with Governor Snyder. Snyder wants no part of right to work. Turns out that Romney does.
"Every person in America ought to have the right whether to choose whether to join a union or not, and so I'm in favor of right to work legislation," he told the crowd.
Romney's opposition to the president's health care plan is well documented, so when a Canadian said he was happy with his government-run healthcare plan, Romney zinged him.
"You can't have my health card," the Canadian told him.
"I don't want it," Romney replied.
One of the few minorities there said she wanted to ask a question on seniors, but didn't get that opportunity.
"I was told by one of his workers that I should put my hand down and be polite because they were going to call on me. So, I went to the gentleman afterwards to let him know he lied," said Nettie Wood from Lansing.
Even though Romney has wiped out Santorum's 15 point lead, one of his Michigan supporters refuses to predict a win next week.
"I'm predicting we're going to win the Tuesday in November and we're going to have a great showing in Michigan a week from today," Schuette said.
This ends the ground game for Romney. It's now up in the air with commercials through next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Romney is off to Arizona for a television debate Wednesday night.
