Cynthia Joye Hoekzema Kallgren
Independent voter Republican
State Representative of the 13th Michigan House District
Wayne County

Why are you running for office?

I have lived in the 13th District for my entire 50 years of Life. I have seen it change from a community of hard working Americans who enjoy the simple pleasures of life, to those struggling to keep jobs and selling homes for much less than they paid. Our businesses are boarded up. I believe I can bring common sense the Lansing that will have a positive effect on the Downriver area.

What is the biggest problem facing Michigan residents today and how would you solve it?

Lack of Jobs and an exiting population that is searching for work. This has caused the empty homes and the lack of tax payers that have propped up our state. We need to bring employers back to our state and let businesses keep more of what they earn so they can hire more employees.

What's a better solution: finding revenue or cutting costs to meet Michigan's public education budget? How would you do it?

Return school dollars to the local school districts and let the local school board decide on curriculum and funding and where to cut. A school district should not have to send all it's taxpayer voted funds to Lansing only to beg for them back. Lansing has too much Liberty dipping into the School Aid fund when it overspends elsewhere. It would cut costs if everything didn't have to filter thru Lansing.

What's the best way to create jobs for Michigan residents?

Lower the Business Tax so that we create an atmosphere that attracts Business and therefore Job Creators back to our state.

After you leave this earth, what will they say about you?

She valued integrity in herself and her friends and family. She was committed to her four amazing children and her Spartan nut husband. She loved her country and the stories of it's Founders. She cried during the Star Spangled Banner, the Pledge of Allegiance, and Sense and Sensibility and other good chick flicks. She was proud of her Dutch and European Heritage and loved her friends from all over the world and experiencing their cultures and food.
