John J. Walsh
State Representative
Republican
Wayne County
House District 19
Why are you running for office?
I endeavor to continue my service to District 19 and the greater Michigan community. With a a common sense, cooperative approach and a personal background in business, education, law, and public service, I have proven effective at utilizing my skill set towards effective leadership and responsible public policy.
What is the biggest problem facing Michigan residents today and how would you solve it?
While our state faces many pressing issues, we must secure Michigan's future by scaling back government spending and making Michigan attractive to job-providers. More businesses means more jobs, and more jobs means having the revenue to sustain critical government functions such as education and public safety.
What's a better solution: finding revenue or cutting costs to meet Michigan's public education budget? How would you do it?
Funding for education must be prioritized while we address government spending through structural reforms and targeted cuts. In addition to generating efficiencies at the state level, we must give school districts the authority and tools they need to address their own costs.
What's the best way to create jobs for Michigan residents?
In addition to creating a tax structure attractive to job-providers, the state should maintain effective tax incentives and pursue the possibility of public-private partnerships.
After you leave this earth, what will they say about you?
I would be like to be remembered as a hard worker, a devoted family man and a fair, principled public servant.
