Why are you running for office?

I am running because Detroit (and the struggling state of Michigan) needs responsible representation in Lansing. For too long, we have elected and sent poor leadership to Lansing. And we simply cannot afford to that any longer. With our struggling economy, high crime rates, and failing school system, we need someone that will fight for the people and be accountable for his fellow citizen. That person is me.

What is the biggest problem facing Michigan residents today and how would you solve it?

The biggest problem facing Michigan residents would be the lack of new jobs creation within the state. When we don' have jobs, the economy struggles. When the economy struggles, families struggle. and when families struggle, the entire community struggles. So there fore, we all struggle. My plan would be to cut business taxes and create incentives for new jobs creation; not just in Detroit, but for the entire state.

What's a better solution: finding revenue or cutting costs to meet Michigan's public education budget? How would you do it?

Cutting cost is the quick and easy solution, but it hasn't, nor will it prove to be effective in the long run. Find revenues is the only way we can create a sustainable public education budget. There are many other pork barrel programs that past elected officials have set up, that can be cut and that money can be funneled into our public education system.

What's the best way to create jobs for Michigan residents?

As I mentioned before, the best way to create jobs is by making it easier and more affordable for people and companies to come here and start new businesses or expand on already establish corporations. If the state can enact a plan or law that says, 'for the next 5 years, we will waive new business taxes or give monetary incentives to any new company that employs 'x' amount of people" than we would see our employment rates raise and our economy soar to new heights.

After you leave this earth, what will they say about you?

They will say that Damian C, Mitchell was truly servant of 'the people'. They will say that "he was a man of integrity and he did what was right, even when it wasn't popular or convenient."
