Why are you running for office?
My family owns Prop & Sail, Inc/ Angler’s Marine in Taylor Michigan. My customers are blue collar workers. Union and non-union alike. I work hard just like my customers. When they hurt I hurt. After all, you cannot buy a boat if you do not have a job. This Election is all about Jobs.
What is the biggest problem facing Michigan residents today and how would you solve it?
Job’s are the number one issue that this election is all about. Job’s stop foreclosure on our friend’s homes. Job’s stabilize our Michigan neighborhoods; Jobs keep families together, Job’s give bread winners personal pride. Jobs balance budgets. We have lost just short of 1 million jobs in the last decade. We must reverse this trend and get Michigan working again. By giving a tax Holiday to home owners and property owners for remodeling and additions to existing structures we can get our construction people working quickly. This will generate payroll tax, sales tax and a host of other taxes jump starting Michigan’s economy.
Every job created is a new taxpayer generating revenue, and one less on unemployment. That is a win Michigan needs. When Michigan is used to describe a product it should describe the best product period. Pure Michigan, Pure Pride.
What's a better solution: finding revenue or cutting costs to meet Michigan's public education budget? How would you do it?
First we must create jobs that produce the revenues Michigan needs to stabilize education. At the same time we must reduce cost to get Michigan competitive as a state to create more jobs. The Center for Michigan has several great Ideas, such as stable funding sources, efficient school operations that put more of those dollars into the classroom. Sharing of services should be the norm, not the exception. Parents deserve choices in their children’s education.
What's the best way to create jobs for Michigan residents?
We need to reduce the cost of government. Duplication and overlapping authorities need to be eliminated. Cost of government needs to be lower so Michigan can compete against other Great Lakes States and the Southern States who are aggressively pursuing Michigan Manufacturers. Michigan needs to accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives. By creating an investment friendly environment, business and families will want to be in Michigan.
After you leave this earth, what will they say about you?
When life called my name, I did not hesitate to get involved. Returning Michigan to the best state to live and work.
