Roop Raj Teaches Students at Detroit's Communication and Media Arts High School

It was back to school Friday for FOX 2 reporter Roop Raj as he spoke to the leaders of tomorrow at the Communication and Media Arts High School in Detroit. FOX 2 has adopted the school, and for its students, the future is looking bright.

"I'm an aspiring journalist, and I love to write," said Charnae Sanders. "Writing's my passion, and I know that each show takes writing. Writing starts everything, whether it's sports or anything, it all starts with that one word."

The program Detroit Public Schools calls bold teams businesses up with schools such as the Communication and Media Arts High School.

The principal was excited about Friday's kick-off with FOX 2.

"FOX 2 News -- everybody knows it. The kids are excited about that partnership, so it just gives us an opportunity to expand our academic curriculum," said Donya Odom.

"This is really a wonderful way for businesses to get involved with Detroit Public Schools and help out great kids like the ones here at CMA," said FOX 2 Community Affairs Director Katie Fehr.

One of the things we taught the students was that the skills they are learning, such as writing and storytelling, can help in any job.

So often watching the news, you hear about the bad, young people in our area. Friday, we met 14 shining examples of the wonderful, young people in Detroit, and, yes, you could be seeing some of them on a television near you.
