STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - At least 200 people came out Thursday night to remember Tony and Rosie, who are loved so much and whose lives where viciously taken.
22-year-old Anthony Velez and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Rosemary Chyz, are being remembered as kind and gentle souls. Friends exchanged hugs as they looked back on their lives. The pain at the candlelight vigil was so strong for a mother, who lost her son, and for his brothers.
"He graduated 2007 from Henry Ford. He was installing home entertainment systems," said Lisa Puma, Anthony's mother. "He knew people from everywhere. Look at all these kids ... and most of them have been through my house at one point or another."
"He was fun, energetic. He was loving. He had so much love in his heart, and ... he was just the most generous person," said Nick Velez, Anthony's brother.
"We can't forget about Rosie, his girlfriend that was with him. I'm sure her friends are here," Puma told us. "I'm just so sorry, I'm sorry she was there. I'm sorry she went down there. I'm sorry he went down there. Just don't blame him. This isn't his fault."
Perhaps one of the heaviest of hearts belongs to Anthony's best friend.
"Don't put yourself in bad situations. Stay away from drugs because I don't know if drugs had something to do with this, but it might have played a part. Everyone be safe, and don't take people you have for granted because you don't know when they're gone," said Ryan Bond.
Donations can be made at any TCF Bank.
A fundraiser for Rosie Chyz's family will be held on Monday, October 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Cheli's Chilli in Clinton Township. The address is 41240 Hayes Road.
Her visitation will be at the Resurrection Funeral Home in Clinton Township from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28th. It is located at 40800 Hayes Road.
Chyz's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 30th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul of Tarsus in Clinton Township. The church's address is 41300 Romeo Plank Road.
