DETROIT - The question of who killed Tamara Greene may now have an answer. After years of speculation and court filings, Detroit city officials say they know who killed the exotic dancer, but they want it kept secret.
’Everything about this case is a vicious cycle, and everything about this case makes me mad,’ said attorney Norman Yatooma.
Monday, a motion filed in federal court was just one more thing to tick off Yatooma.
’In those papers, he has suggested, it sounds like he knows who the killer is,’ Yatooma said.
Who’s he talking about and what’s going on now?
’The city lawyer has asked the court to give him more room to explain why he believes our case should be dismissed,’ said Yatooma. ’I’d be thrilled if they found the murderer, but to suggest that somehow it ends up dismissing our case, well that’s nonsense.’
For the city to spill the beans and prove the murder of exotic dancer Tamara Greene has nothing at all to do with the rumored party at the Manoogian Mansion would mean they’d have to identify her killer, and the city doesn’t want to do that. According to the paperwork, that would put Detroit in a pretty awkward predicament because they’re worried about the safety of their informant.
However, a man known as ’Little D’ on the streets, 38-year-old Darrett King’s name has been floating around for quite some time. Yatooma is not buying it.
’He’s been brought up many times. He seems to be something of a red herring, maybe a scapegoat, but irrespective of your animal metaphor, I think this is likely not the killer,’ Yatooma said. ’Has no impact on our case, of course, because we haven’t sued anybody for killing Tammy Greene. We’ve sued Kwame Kilpatrick and the city of Detroit for covering up the murder investigation into Tammy Greene.’
’The only thing that the public actually hears in this whole matter is what Norm Yatooma says. Well, Norm Yatooma didn’t investigate this homicide. I did,’ said Michael Carlisle.
He’s a former homicide detective with the Detroit Police Department. Carlisle retired about two years ago, but he was front and center in the Tamara Greene murder investigation.
’Which I worked vigorously from January 2008 up until the time I retired,’ he said.
Because of a gag order, he can’t say much about this case, but he told us the following.
’Nothing ever impeded the investigation into Tamara Greene,’ Carlisle said. ’I’ve never received a threatening phone call. I’ve never received anonymous notes threatening me. I had access to any part of the country I wanted to go to where this investigation led me to.’
That completely contradicts Yatooma’s claims of a cover up.
’The city’s aware of the investigation. They have everything that we need, and when Norm Yatooma says a lot of these outrageous things I just laugh,’ said Carlisle.
Carlisle says what is most important is getting closure for Greene’s family. FOX 2 asked him if they will ever know the truth and who killed her. He says yes.
