myFOXdetroit.com Staff - It only happens one day a year, but the people who earn it, are working every day for you.
On November 11th, America honors military men and women past, present and future.
Fox 2 pays Tribute To Our Troops with a special broadcast, sponsored by Gardner White Furniture .
You'll meet men and women from Michigan who risk their lives and serve thousands of miles away from the people they love to make sure you are free and safe.
Alex Knapp lost his legs in a bomb attack in Iraq. He returned to Michigan to become a true inspiration to everyone he encountered. He even managed to play the sport he loves- hockey, with a specially equipped wheelchair. He was playing hockey when he suffered a heart attack and died. You'll hear his words about what a gift life is and how his family hopes his spirit will live on.
Learn about life in Afghanistan now. Hear from the service members themselves, about why we're over there and the work our troops are doing. The troops share with you the pain of leaving family behind and of losing fellow service members.
Then travel back in time with World War II veterans, who vividly remember their service from nearly a half century ago. Board a bus, a plane and travel with Fox 2's own military veteran Rich Luterman to our nation's capitol.
He joined more than 100 World War II vets as they visited the memorial dedicated to their service in Washington, D.C.
Finally take a moment to remember the men and women from Michigan who gave their lives to secure freedom for you.
