DETROIT (myFOXDetroit.com) - The FOX 2 Problem Solvers get results. We've plugged up the water problem at the old Packard plant in Detroit.
Crews from the Detroit Water Department descended on the property to stop a major water leak and look for others.
Lewis Dennison photographs abandoned properties in Detroit. He discovered the steam of water flowing from a broken pipe in the basement of one of the Packard buildings. He alerted the Problem Solvers after trying, but failing to get the attention of the water department. The water down the drain is money out of the pockets of Detroit water rate customers throughout the region.
"I'm just glad that it's finally getting taken care of because that's what was important," said Dennison. "I'm just thankful that it's getting taken care of and it's saving everybody money."
Lewis was determined to get the leak stopped.
"I tried and tried and tried and... I guess if you want something done in the city of Detroit, you got to call the Problem Solvers," Dennison said.
The crews found another leak in an underground pit and are surveying the whole property.
Locating all the water lines in this vast, abandoned industrial complex is a daunting task.
Finding shut off valves and man holes on the site of the old plant requires considerable effort. Lewis Dennison will continue volunteering his keen eyes and ears to help stop wasting the pure water.
"Just shows that there's more unexplored territory down there that I have to get back and check out," said Dennison. "If I find another leak, I know who I'm calling."
