GETTING BYE

The bye weeks are here and we all have roster issues. No one is immune. Everyone has a spot or two in their lineups over the next couple of weeks where they are weak. Do not despair, you may be in a position to take advantage of someone else’s bye week issues. Let’s look at how you can do this and perhaps significantly improve your roster.

I have a theory that I employ every year and it seems like every year I walk away from the bye weeks stronger than I went into them. Here it is: TRADE YOUR PLAYERS THAT HAVE NOT HAD THEIR BYE WEEK YET FOR PLAYERS THAT ALREADY HAVE HAD THEIR BYE WEEK. It sounds simple and it is, but doing this will get you one extra start from a stud running back or wide receiver.

We are entering week No. 5, so that means there are twelve weeks left if you include going to your league’s Super Bowl. Forget about the weeks that are already in the books, we fantasy players only want to think about what’s going to happen and not what’s already happened. The time to make these moves is after the week that the player you want has had their bye. That means this week the players to target would be players from Dallas, Kansas City, Minnesota or Tampa Bay. It may be a good idea to wait a week and allow Miami, New England, Pittsburgh and Seattle to have their bye week.

Let’s use Miles Austin and Roddy White as examples. After week No. 5 the scenario will look like this. Miles Austin’s bye week was in week No. 4 and Roddy White has a bye coming in week No. 8. No need to bust out the calculator to figure this out. If you trade Roddy White for Miles Austin you are getting a guy who has 12 games left to play with no bye weeks. Roddy White has 11 games left because of the bye in week No. 8.

Using this theory, you can get an extra start from any player that has had his bye if you give up a guy who has not had his bye yet. It’s sneaky, but it works all the time. I don’t know about you, but I think that extra week is incredibly valuable and can’t be overlooked.
