Tennis fans watching coverage of the U.S. Open may have mistakenly thought they were tuning into a UFC match when a brawl broke out amongst a few spectators at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
The fight erupted during a match between third-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Philipp Petzschner of Germany.
A young man and a woman sitting in the same section stood up and began a nasty argument. The woman was allegedly irritated by his constant use of a certain expletive.
Then she slapped him.
Shortly following the slap, an older man switched places with the woman, which led to a violent altercation that sent both men toppling over into the seats below.
The match was delayed while security got the situation under control. All three participants were eventually handcuffed and led out of the stadium.
Tennis officials later announced the trio has been banned from attending the U.S. Open until 2013.
