It was the day after Presidents' Day that former Red Wing Shawn Burr's life was changed forever. Ever since February 22nd, 2011 Burr no longer takes the little things for granted. Nor does he worry about material things that once seemed significant. That's because he's been to the other side of hell and back after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, one of the most aggressive forms of the disease, which Burr playfully admits he didn't even bother learning to spell.

To hear you have Cancer is a life altering moment to say the least, but for anyone who knows Burr - always joking, laughing and poking fun at himself as well as others around him - nothing has changed, at least outwardly. After four rounds of Chemotherapy, the experience has left Burr a changed man - grateful for the gifts in his life, which includes his wife and children. In our interview on Monday afternoon at the Meadowbrook Golf Club, Burr talked about helping to carry on Sparky Anderson's legacy and blazing a trail of his own, still happy go lucky and often self deprecating.
