(EndPlay Staff Reports) - One of the buzziest commercials during this past weekend's Super Bowl was Chevy's Apocalypse ad where they mentioned one of their competitors (Ford) as inferior, and it's got their auto nemesis worked up about the dig, Yahoo! Autos reported.
In a scene that looks like it came out of a Hollywood-blockbuster, end-of-the-world film, a Chevy Silverado truck emerges from the aftermath of the Mayan predicted 2012 Apocalypse.
Driving through the rubble of a city strewn with destroyed robots, spaceships and an erupted volcano in the distance, the driver and his faithful dog make their way through the post-Apocalyptic world to meet up with other who survived the calamity.
When the Silverado driver asks where "Dave" is, a fellow survivor replies, "He didn't drive the longest-lasting, most dependable truck on the road. He drove a Ford."
When the commercial was released last Friday, Ford was not happy and acted upon their displeasure.
Ford spokesman, Mike Levine, told Yahoo! that the company had a problem with the claims that GM, Chevy's automaker, made about Ford's dependability.
"Claims are made in advertising frequently by every auto manufacturer," Levine said. "This type of ad protest happens from time to time...We'll always defend our products."
Ford went on to ask Chevy to pull the ad and NBC not to air it, USA Today reported. The ad aired during the first quarter of the Super Bowl Sunday night.
GM is standing by its commercial just as Ford is standing by their product.
In a statement, USA Today reported that GM Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick said, "We stand by our claims in the commercial, that the Silverado is the most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickups on the road. The ad is a fun way of putting this claim in the context of the apocalypse."
Ford's global marketing chief, Jim Farley said that Ford will strongly consider running an ad in next year's Super Bowl.
