(EndPlay Staff Reports) - OK Go and the Chevy Sonic teamed up in one of the more creative video spots featured during Super Bowl XLVI.
The full-length video features the band OK Go performing its song "Needing/Getting." What makes the video unique is that the car, fitted with retractable pneumatic arms, plays more than a thousand instruments while driving around a track.
The car is the lead guitarist, pianist and percussionist all in one, proclaimed Chevrolet on its website .
The band stated on YouTube that the video took four months to prepare and four days to shoot. Vocalist Damian Kulash, who sings while driving, took stunt driving lessons so he could maneuver the track.
Special care also went into the instruments, such as how each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note. That meant they would play the right note no matter where the pneumatic arm hit them.
Mashable reported the band shot the video in a desert near Los Angeles. Parts of the video appeared in Chevrolet's Chevy Sonic ad during the game.
The ad campaign also features the Sonic parachuting out of an airplane and doing stunts like a kickflip and bungee jump on a stunt course.
The band's previous projects included an interactive HTML5 video done with Google and a new version of the Muppet Show theme.
