(NewsCore) - Australian airline Qantas has taken one of its A380 super-jumbos out of service after cracks were found in its wings.
Qantas said it was the same plane that was hit by severe turbulence caused by storms over India during a flight from London to Singapore last month, injuring seven passengers.
Checks of the plane in Sydney turned up 36 hairline cracks and Qantas engineers decided to ground the plane on Sunday, the Australian Associated Press reported.
The cracking was found on some wing rib feet but Qantas said type of cracking was different to that discovered by manufacturer Airbus on certain A380s across various airlines which are the subject of a European airworthiness directive issued last month.
Qantas said the cracks were not related to the turbulence but had been traced to a manufacturing issue at Airbus.
The airline said the cracks had no effect on flight safety and the plane will be back in the air within a week.
