DETROIT (AP) - Marcus Semien's seventh-inning grand slam lifted the Chicago White Sox over the Detroit Tigers 6-4 last night. Jose Abreu hit another long home run for the White Sox. But it was Semien's first career slam that turned around the game. Detroit starter Drew Smyly allowed two runs in six innings.

DETROIT (AP) - The Boston Bruins have held the Detroit Red Wings to historically poor production offensively. Detroit is off to its worst three-game start in any playoff series since the 1945 Stanley Cup finals. Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask, backchecking forwards and shot-blocking defensemen have had a lot to do with that.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions will open the season with a home Monday night game against the New York Giants. The September 8th game against the Giants will mark the first time Detroit begins the season in prime time since 1991. The last time Detroit opened on Monday night was in 1971 against Minnesota.
