Hair Relaxers & Fibroids

Posted: Updated:

It's a trend that's growing in popularity when it comes to women and their hair.

That trend is referred to as "the big chop." It is when women cut off all of their chemically treated hair to get back to their healthy roots.

Many African American women are saying good bye to chemical hair straighteners and choosing instead to go natural.

But why?

Their hair is getting extremely damaged from the use of relaxers. And now a recent study has been released that claims chemical relaxers could possibly be causing fibroids, which a number of black women have.

Fox 29's Joyce Evans also reports that the hair industry is not regulated by the FDA. This means there is no way of knowing just how dangerous chemical relaxers are.
