Chicago's Most Wanted Carrot Top Bandit

FBI agents gave the "Carrot Top" bandit his moniker because of the orange wig he wears but that isn't the only part of this robber's appearance that caught their attention.

When the Chase Bank on LaGrange Road in Orland Park was robbed on October 7th, investigators say the "Carrot Top" Bandit did it -- armed with a claw hammer. The FBI's Ross Rice says that's a "somewhat unusual weapon of choice" when robbing a bank.

Investigators say this bandit approached the teller window, handed the teller a note announcing a bank robbery, and verbally threatened harm if his demands for cash were not met. That's when witnesses observed a hammer on the side of the shoulder bag that the robber had carried into the bank. Just before he left the bank, agents say the "Carrot Top" bandit threatened bank employees one more time by telling them not to move or call police for several minutes because someone was watching and if they did that they were going to get hurt.

After that, witnesses told investigators the "Carrot Top" bandit got into the passenger side of a black mid-1990's Chevrolet Cavalier, possibly a Z24, with no plates on the front or back. The getaway driver and the bank robber fled the bank parking lot and drove east.

Agents describe the "Carrot Top" Bandit as a white male, 20-25 years old, 6' 0" - 6' 3" tall, wearing an orange shoulder length wig, tan baseball cap, blue canvas button down shirt, and blue jeans.

The getaway driver is also described as a white male, around 30 years old, heavy set, with thinning black hair, and a round face with some facial hair.

Both men are considered and dangerous.
