Final Public Hearing Held on Proposed CPS Budget

The Chicago Public School Board will vote in two weeks on a proposed budget that includes a property tax hike.

The final public hearing on the plan was held Friday night. People for and against the budget had a chance to speak out in the Gresham neighborhood.

The plan would raise taxes the maximum amount CPS is allowed to. A home worth $250,000 would pay about $84 more per year.

CPS is trying to fill a budget deficit of more than $700 million. The plan would also cut spending by about $320 million.
