Roughly 1,000 Chicago Public School teachers are about to lose their jobs.
Most of the cuts are the result of a drop in enrollment and the closing or consolidation of schools, which happens every year.
Also included are 150 non-classroom teachers whose jobs include giving extra math and reading help to students who need it.
Many of the teachers will likely be rehired if they apply for other open positions or school principals receive extra money through grants or fundraising.
