Illinois families in the Bright Start college savings program can get refunds if they missed out on a special promotion earlier this month.
The promotion offered a matching contribution if $250 was invested in the month of June, but it was limited to the first 2,500 families.
Due to a glitch in the site , more than 7,000 people contributed thinking they’d get the matching funds, but unknowingly missed out.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford said those families can now get their $250 back without being penalized or taxed.
