Dr. Oz: Healthy Hygiene for Nose and Sinus

If you have a habit of picking more winners from your nose than the stock market, then you might be risking more than your portfolio.

Tweezing and scratching, and other over-enthusiastic nose activities can expose hair follicles to bacteria in an area called “the triangle of death”. This is the region where the nasal and sinus blood supply meets with the large vein at the base of the brain. If an infection should happen to travel there, it could become an infected blood clot.

So do this instead of picking and plucking:

Clear nasal passages with a nasal rinse using a neti pot as part of your daily morning hygiene routine.

Line your nose with a moistening jell to make it less crusty.

And use a rotary nose-hair trimmer that gently cut the hairs rather than pulling them out at the root.
