New Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard said he's doing research to understand the challenges he will face running the nation's third-largest school district.
Brizard says he is also planning a "listening tour" with teachers and students to build relationships he failed to sustain in Rochester, N.Y.
Brizard said Tuesday he doesn't think anyone will have the patience for him to sit for a year to figure out what's going on.
In his first interview with Chicago media since Rahm Emanuel picked him to run Chicago Public Schools, Brizard said he regrets his relationship with the Rochester Teachers Association led to a no-confidence vote.
Brizard says he's spoken with Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis by telephone and plans to meet with her next week.
