A US Border Patrol agent was charged Tuesday with harboring illegal aliens and lying to federal agents after he protected an illegal immigrant who had been twice deported, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In an unusual twist, the illegal immigrant that Marcos Gerardo Manzano Jr., 26, is accused of harboring is his own father.
A criminal complaint filed in San Diego federal court shows that Marcos Gerardo Manzano Sr., 46, was convicted of a marijuana offense in October 2006 and has twice been deported to Mexico.
Authorities allege that Manzano Sr. crossed the border again, returning to his son's home. When Manzano Jr.'s home in San Ysidro, in San Diego, was raided on Tuesday his father was not there, and he is still being sought by the FBI.
Manzano Jr. was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
