ENJOY IT
GREAT BREAK FROM LATE-JULY HEAT AND HUMIDITY!

In the wake of yesterday’s cold front, noticeably cooler and drastically drier air has taken over. After a heat/humidity combination that lead to widespread heat indices in the triple digits (as high as 127 in south Georgia!), temperatures are running about 10-15 degrees cooler this morning – and near record lows. The drop in humidity levels is fall-like and resembles a similar break we enjoyed earlier in the month. For today, we’ll have sunny skies, northwest breezes at 10-15 mph that will draw in even drier air, and highs in the mid 80s (about 5 degrees below average). Under clear skies tonight, temperatures will fall further. Expect lows Wednesday morning in the upper 50s to low 60s. The existing record for Atlanta is 61, set back in 1936. We’ll come close to tying that record overnight.

The break will last through Thursday. By Thursday, though, clouds will begin to increase and humidity will begin to rise gradually.

STANDARD SUMMER THUNDERSTORM CHANCES RETURN BEFORE THE WEEKEND

By Friday and over the weekend, afternoon thundershowers chances return. With otherwise partly cloudy skies, temperatures will be close to average for late July-early August. But humidity will be noticeably higher. From Friday through Monday, there is a 30%-40% chance of thundershowers each day.

WATCHING THE TROPICS

A large area of tropical thunderstorms is positioned in the central Atlantic Ocean with a high probability of development within the next 48 hours or less. Should this reach tropical storm intensity, it would earn the name “Bertha”. Regardless of strength, computer forecast models agree on bringing this system westward through the Atlantic and coming into or just north of the eastern Caribbean within 5 days from now. We’ll be watching closely beyond that time frame to see how close to the eastern seaboard of the US it could approach. You can get the latest anytime at www.myfoxhurricane.com
