Anglers flock to Waconia for fishing opener

WACONIA, Minn. -

For the last two decades, Donna Frantz has toiled in the soil on the outskirts of Waconia, but not this farmer is hoping to catch some new customers on the way to her hometown.

"The fishing poles and the bobbers," she said. "You just got to sell the sizzle."

At midnight, Minnesota's love affair will be off and running, and for the first time, this small town on the shores of Lake Waconia is hosting the governor's fishing opener.

"Last year, the Lt. Governor caught more fish than I did, so this year she's going to another lake," joked Gov. Mark Dayton, at a pre-opener celebration.

But for every fish out of water, there are anglers of all ages who can take the bait hook, line and sinker.

Frantz hopes once the out-of-towners get a taste of Waconia, they'll be hooked on her hometown.

"We wish I could have it every year," said said.
