FRASER, Mich. (WJBK) -

"I'm really surprised, especially students, because he was close with a lot of the kids, and I didn't really like expect any of that," said DJ Flanta.

32-year-old Gregory Austin was Flanta's fifth grade teacher.

"He was pretty nice.  Like he would always help us with stuff and he'd like tell us stories from like when he was a kid and stuff."

However, this man who many say was a nice guy is facing some far from nice charges.  He's accused of producing, receiving and possessing child pornography.

The FBI investigation reveals twelve of the alleged victims are students in the Fraser school district.

"When we received the contact from the FBI in regards to wanting to take a look at some yearbooks, that is when obviously our concerned heightened," said superintendent Dr. David Richards.

He learned of the allegations just days ago.  The FBI didn't give him the names of the students, and as of Monday afternoon, no families have reached out for help.

Dr. Richards says the charges are an absolute shock.

"Whatever names are released to us or if we're asked to assist in any way with the FBI, we will do that with the families."

Austin was a teacher and band instructor at Eisenhower Elementary for eight years.  He has close ties to the school.  His wife is a teacher there and his mother a secretary.

However, what has been described as a promising career ended this past March when Austin was arrested in Roseville for buying drugs.

"The first charges you could deal with, but not when it has something to do with the kids.  That's sickening," said neighbor Tom Badalementi.

News of the arrest and charges is sending shock waves through Austin's Chesterfield Township neighborhood.  Neighbors say they didn't know the Austins well, and they probably won't get a chance to.

"I'm shocked now, very, very shocked," Badalementi remarked.

Austin is being held without bond.  He has a detention hearing scheduled for this upcoming Thursday, and that's when we'll most likely learn a little bit more details about these charges.

Meanwhile, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office are calling for anyone with more information to contact the FBI.
