Father beaten with crowbar during robbery at Detroit home

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

A Detroit family was terrorized inside their own home Tuesday morning.  Two adults and one of their children were tied up as armed robbers ransacked the house.

"They kicked the side door in and put guns up to them, told them to lay down, tied them up.  My little nephew, the eleven-year-old, ran downstairs.  They tied him up.  They tied them all up in the basement," Kimberly Jenkins explained.

The family said the rest of the house was empty protecting the ten and five-year-old boys still sleeping upstairs.  The robbers then attacked the children's father.

"They beat him with a crowbar, but the police got it.  [Their] fingerprints [were] on the crowbar," Jenkins told us.

Detroit police collected fingerprints and evidence and went door-to-door on the 16000 block of Manning Street.

In a true sign of the times, Jenkins words to the robbers are not words of anger, but words of thanks.

"Thanks for saving their lives and not taking them."
