Interview with Mayor Dave Bing Chief Karen Dumas

Most of Michigan's political big wigs are on Mackinac Island right now for the annual policy conference.

The 72-hour session is supposed to be used to share ideas with lawmakers so that they may make better informed decision about Michigan's policies.

Sometimes it's just about politics.  Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's Chief of Communications and External Affairs knows this all too well.  Right now Karen Dumas is at the center of an administrative storm.

Since Bing took office two years ago, more than 30 top managers and executives have been cycled in and cycled out.

Some people say Karen Dumas may be the reason for many of the revolving door.  "It's disingenuous to blame it on me," says Dumas.

Fox 2's Charlie Langton talks with Dumas about this notion.  Play the video taken outside the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.>>

In the interview Dumas says she does not want people to confuse personnel with performance.

She tells Charlie that there's "just not one reason that applies to why people left, there are different reasons for different people."

She says she is sorry that Deputy Mayor Saul Green resigned because he brought "integrity and experience to the office."

Langton: Do you feel like you're being blamed?

Dumas: Yes I do, a little bit.
